Robert Lewis, age 27, was born in Ireland, was a mechanic and lived in East Berlin.  He enlisted into the 1st Heavy Artillery, Company G as a private on May 22, 1861.  He was promoted to Corporal on December 31, 1861.  He was promoted to Sergeant on March 9, 1862.  He transferred to Company C and became a 2nd Lieutenant on September 7, 1863. He transferred to Company L as a 1st Lieutenant on November 8, 1864.  He was promoted to Captain on March 25, 1865.  He mustered out on September 25, 1865 in Washington DC.  His Civil War pension was received by his wife Mary.
