Nelson Allen married Lucy Brown, both of Berlin on July 10, 1836.  In 1850, Henry, age 34 in 1850 lived in New Britain with his wife Lucy and children: Ann, James, Henry F., Elizabeth, Catherine, and William.  In 1860, he lived in New Britain with his second wife Eliza and her son William Root.  He was a brass molder.  On May 22, 1861, he enlisted in the 1st Heavy Artillery, Company H as a Sergeant.  He was reduced to ranks on July 1, 1862.  He reenlisted on November 26, 1863.  He was promoted to Corporal on August 10, 1864.  He mustered out on September 25, 1865 in Washington D.C.    He returned to New Britain where he lived with his second wife.  He was a member of the Stanley Post of the GAR.  He received a pension for his Civil War activity.  He lived in Fitch’s Home for Soldiers in Darien, CT.  Sergeant Nelson died on May 23, 1902 and is buried in Fairview cemetery, New Britain, CT.
