Marvin L. Cook of Middletown married Mary Jane Curtis of Berlin. In 1860, Martin, age 28, lived in Middletown with his wife Mary, age 28, and his father Sylvester, age 76. He enlisted from Middletown into the 14th Regiment, Company B on August 4, 1862. He received a disability discharge on January 20, 1863.
From The Constitution (newspaper), Middletown, Ct: January 6, 1869: Mr. Marvin Cook of Westfield, in this town while out fox hunting on Tuesday, met with a terrible accident. He was standing, leaning upon his gun with his left shoulder directly over the muzzle, when it accidentally exploded, shattering his entire arm in a fearful manner. It is feared that he cannot recover. He died on January 2, 1869 at age 47 and is buried in the Old East Cemnetery in Middletown, CT.
