John P. Connell, was born in Ireland.  In 1860, he was 30 years old, lived in Berlin, and was a mechanic.  He enlisted from Kensington into the 1st Infantry, Company G on April 20, 1861 as a private.  He mustered out on July 31, 1861.           He reenlisted into the 6th Regiment, Company G on September 4, 1861.  He was promoted to Sergeant on November 11, 1862.  He was promoted to Sergeant on November 11, 1862.  He reenlisted on January 4, 1864.  He was wounded on August 16, 1864 at Deep Run, VAS.  He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on January 3, 1865.  He was promoted to Captain on February 13, 1865.  He mustered out on August 21, 1865 in New Haven, CT.  He joined the Kensington Congregational Church on November 7, 1869.  His widow Hattie received his Civil War pension.
