John Leonard/ Lennon was born in 1822 in Ireland.  He enlisted into the 1^st Heavy Artillery, Company B on February 9, 1863.  He mustered out on September 25, 1865.   After the war, he lived in New Britain, married May and had children:  John, Bridget, Abbie.  .  He collected his Civil War pension and acknowledged using the name John Lennon.  He died in 1882 and was buried in New Britain.
