James Johnson, age 27, in 1860 lived in Berlin with his wife Nancy, age 24, and children: James, age 8, Alice, age 6, Mary, age 3, Fanny, age 6 months. He enlisted into the 1st Heavy Artillery, Company H on August 25, 1864. He deserted September 8, 1864. He reenlisted into the 1st Heavy Artillery, Company I on December 1, 1864 and deserted on February 15, 1865.
