Henry E Savage

Henry E. Savage was born on February 9, 1840.  In 1860, he was age 20 and lived in Berlin with his parents Willis and Alyssa and siblings:  Ada, age 17, and Willis, age 14.  He enlisted into the 16th Regiment, Company G on July 20, 1682.  He was promoted to Sergeant on September 17, 1862.  He was mentioned in Charlie’s Civil War by Charles Brandegee Livingstone.   He was captured on April 20, 1864 at Plymouth, NC.  He served as a prisoner of war in Andersonville.  He was pardoned December 10, 1864.  He mustered out on June 24, 1865.    By 1870, he lived in East Berlin as a farmer with this wife Theodora, age 28, and children:  Charles, age 3 and Clarence age 8 months.  In 1900 his additional children included Willis, born in 1880, Theodore, born in 1881, and Caroline, born in 1883.  He collected his Civil War pension.  He died on January 4, 1907 at age 66 and was buried in Wilcox Cemetery in East Berlin.
