Henry C. Miller, age 30 in 1860 was a carriage maker and lived in Berlin with his wife Emily, age 25, and children: Charles age 6, George age 4. He enlisted into the 1st Heavy Artillery, Company H on May 22, 1861. One report says he was captured on June 23, 1862 at Cold Harbor, VA. While another says he was captured at Gaine’s Mill on June 27, 1862. He was hospitalized and pardoned on July 22, 1862. He was mentioned in Charlie’s Civil War by Charles Brandegee Livingstone, page 56, 57. He was promoted to Corporal on January 3, 1863. He was discharged May 21, 1864. He died on December 7, 1864 at age 36 and was buried in Maple Cemetery in Berlin.
