Frank A Cole

Frank Allyn Cole was born about 1842 in Kensington.  His parents were: Ira Cole, age 47, a manufacturer, and Melissa Allyn, age 31, and siblings: Edward, age 10, Florence, age 3.  The family lived on the Cole Family farm located at 98 Norton Road in Kensington.  He was baptized on March 27, 1855 at the Kensington Congregational Church.  In 1860, he lived in Berlin and was an 18 year old clerk in Upson’s Dry Goods Store.  Frank lived in La Crosse, Wisconsin when he enlisted on April 18, 1864 as a Captain into the 37th Wisconsin, Company E.  He died of his wounds received in the Battle before Petersburg, VA on October 4, 1864 at the Armory Square Hospital in Washington DC at age 22 years.  He was buried in the Blue Hills Cemetery (South Burying Grounds).  His father, Ira Cole was devastated by his early violent death and never fully recovered from the tragedy.
