Edward Barnard

Edward C. Barnard,  age 47, was a blacksmith living in Cromwell with his wife Harriet, age 39, and son George M, age 17, a farm laborer.  His children include Bernard, Hiram, and Willard.  On May 22, 1861, Edward enlisted in to the 1st Heavy Artillery, Company H as a private.  On April 7, 1863 he was detailed artificer in Company M.  His son George also enlisted in the army.  He mustered out on September 25, 1865.  He was mentioned in Charlie’s Civil War by Charles Brandegee Livingstone, page 161:  “I saw Barnard of East Berlin he is blacksmith in Camp.”  He was a resident of Fitch’s Home for Soldiers in Darien, CT.  He died on June 19, 1890 at age 78.
