Dwight Thorp enlisted into the 1^st Heavy Artillery, Company H as a Corporal on May 22, 1861.  He was promoted to Sergeant on February 21 on  February 21, 1862.  He reenlisted on November 26, 1863.  He mustered out on September 25, 1865 in Washington DC.  By 1870, he was 41 years old and lived in New Britain as a brickyard employee.
