David Ellsworth enlisted into the 18th Regiment, Company C on August 21, 1862.  He was captured on June 5, 1864 in Piedmont, VA.  He was a prisoner of war in Andersonville.  He was pardoned on February 24, 1865.  He mustered out on June 5, 1865.  He was married to Eliza and had a child Frederic.
